Pour Me One
While cooking up my business plan and trying samples of nail polish from all over the world, I decided to test polish at my friends pool party. I got there at 3pm with my 3 sons. A bunch of my other girlfriends were there with their kids. The kids were swimming and having a great time, we were sipping margaritas and appletini and lying in the sun.
I guess after I’d been there for an hour I brought out my nail polish and tools and started to paint my girlfriends nails. The first manicure went well enough, but as each new manicure got done the nail polish was visibly messier and messier on my girls nails. I was manicuring drunk. I was also painting their nails in the scorching sun. The nail polish was bubbling and all over my girlfriends hands. It was a nightmare.
The hostess and a few other people (by this time some husbands had come over to see what was going on) were doing tequila shots in the kitchen. We lost the hostess soon, she had to leave her party before her guests did because she had drank a bit too much. There were one or two sober people watching the kids and shaking their heads at what was going on around the pool that day, I can’t blame them. My only words of wisdom are 1-eat something before you drink and 2-don’t drink and nail polish.

Pina Colada
- 1-cup coconut milk
- 1-cup pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup rum
- 4 tablespoons white sugar
- 8 cubes ice
In a blender, combine coconut milk, pineapple juice, rum, sugar and ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses, and serve immediately.

Just taking time to do your nails should be a nice pampering experience. If you find yourself either alone or with a bunch of girlfriends and need something to do here are some suggestions. These are some of my go tos that keep me cheerful. Keep in mind these are things that my girlfriends and I have all done for a fun evening or for a raining day, they are a guide and you can tailor them to your tastes!
Get your favourite music and sing your heart out, dance but be careful not to dent or smudge your nails!
A few good magazines and a glass of wine, cup of tea or a latte.
